Our History

The History of Hartville Elevator

Housed in a county landmark building, our origins trace back to 1909 when we started to make feed for dairy farmers. Over the next century we added more product offerings from birdseeds and dog food to lawn and garden supplies.

As we continue to evolve, we are always introducing new products, including a non-GMO poultry and hog feed for Harmon Creek Farms. And we partner with other local businesses, as we buy corn from a bicentennial farm and grind corn into mash used in the distillation process to make bourbon at Gervasi Vineyards in Canton.

Owner History

The History of Hartville Elevator

An early settler (1811) and pioneer of the community was Conrad Brumbaugh. That family name has been synonymous with Hartville Elevator Co. and nearby Quail Hollow State Park through the years. In 1950, Virgil Ringer also became involved in the business. Today, Craig Wellspring co-owns the business with Edwin Ringer, and they have been running the day-to-day operations since 1980.

For many years, Craig Wellspring and Edwin Ringer co-owned the business, steering the day-to-day operations since 1980 with a commitment to maintaining its storied tradition and values. November of 2023 marked the beginning of a new chapter as Christian Ramsburg acquired the business. This transition promises to honor the rich history of the company while steering it towards a future filled with the same dedication and service that have been its hallmark for over a century.
